When people are ditching the booze, or starting to feel better (after years of abuse!) there is often a need and a desire to find the right supplements.  This can be tricky as not everyone can get personalised nutritional advice.  I am constantly being asked to recommend good quality supplements that will support recovery and I’m pleased to say that I am in discussions with Dr Marilyn Glenville about a co-creation, the ‘perfect’ ‘Sober Support’ supplement that offers all the nutrients we need to help balance our ‘recalibrating’ brain chemistry.

Meanwhile Marilyn has had the Natural Health Practice range of supplements for years and its only now I’m realising how good they are, so I want to recommend these supplements to you, especially the Sleep Support (so many of my clients are having problems sleeping right now!)

Listen to the Alcohol Free Life Podcast with Marilyn where we discuss sleep, hormones, immunity and how to help our liver after years of abuse!  You can listen here.  https://podtail.com/en/podcast/janey-lee-grace-alcohol-free-life/114-with-dr-marilyn-glenville-on-natural-recovery/

If you are unsure where to start, I asked Marilyn what she might recommend generically for someone who has been drinking for a long time and wants to speed up recovery and get their brain chemistry back into balance.  Marilyn Says;

‘I would suggest Tranquil Support as it contains all the B vitamins that help with the production of neurotransmitters.  The vitamin B6 is in the form of pyridoxal-5-phosphate.  P-5-P is a cofactor for enzymes involved in the synthesis of many neurotransmitters and hormones, including serotonin and GABA, key players in mood regulation. It also contains L-theanine and Siberian ginseng.  Magnesium is also included which is known as ‘nature’s tranquilliser’. Chromium is one of the ingredients which is important if food is being substituted for alcohol especially sweet, comfort foods.

I would also suggest adding in Sleep Support, 2 one hour before bed, when sleeping is an issue and also Advanced Probiotic Support because we have a ‘second brain’ in our gut and 95% of our serotonin is in our digestive system compared to 5% in the central nervous system.

Research is suggesting that we will be using beneficial bacteria in the same way we now use Prozac or Valium and that they can help with mood disorders and be able to modulate brain function.

We all know the importance of Vitamin D – especially during the Winter in the Uk and because its been extensively linked with boosting immunity against any infections.  Vitamin D3 Support is an easy way for all the family to stay safe from the sun’s rays and maintain good levels of Vitamin D all year round, is ideal for the whole family as it delivers the government recommendation of 400ius per day per dropper. It’s fine for both vegetarians and vegans as the vitamin D3 is from Lichen and not sheep’s lanolin’
