What Is a Sober Coach… and Why We Need Them Now More Than Ever?

Most people have heard of life coaches, wellbeing coaches, or even mindset coaches… But sober coaching is still a mystery to many, and yet it’s one of the fastest‑growing, most impactful coaching niches in the wellbeing world.

The Sober Club Accredited Sober Coaches work in an authentic holistic way – but they  don’t  worki with people at rock bottom.  They don’t claim to be recovery specialists, addiction counsellors, or to be offering medical support.  Sober Club Accredited Sober Coaches STAY IN THEIR LANE.

It’s about supporting the millions of “grey area drinkers” –  the ones who are functioning, successful, outwardly fine… but quietly struggling with the role alcohol plays in their life.

What is a Grey Area Drinker?

Grey area drinkers are the hidden majority, the ones who don’t fit the label.  In my TEDx talk Sobriety Rocks – Whoknew! I state:

‘There are at least 50 shades of grey – and none of them sexy’

These are the people who don’t need rehab. They typically don’t resonsate with AA, they are not an ‘alcoholic’  They need support, tools, accountability, and a holistic approach to help them break the cycle before things get worse.  They CAN be free from the alcohol trap – and thats what makes this work SO rewarding.  We see clients every day who say they feel like a different person – they have another chance at life.  (If thats you, by the way DM me – lets help get you free!)

This is where a well‑trained sober coach becomes life‑changing.

As Brené Brown says, “Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do.”

Sober coaching is about helping people do exactly that – with compassion, clarity, and zero judgement.

And the demand is growing faster than ever.

⭐ A Real Example: From Full‑Time Job to Full‑Time Purpose

In my latest instant‑access free webinar, I sit down with Polly Lovell, who trained with me through The Sober Club Accredited Coach Training™.

Polly was working full‑time in education when she realised she wanted to make a deeper impact. She completed the training, built her practice, and now works as a coach,  supporting grey area drinkers to reclaim their wellbeing and their confidence.

The Sober Club Accredited Coach Training

She describes it as “the most rewarding work I’ve ever done.”

In our conversation, we talk through:

  • What sober coaching actually involves
  • Who it’s for (and who it’s not for)
  • Why the holistic approach matters

  • What it’s really like to transition into this work

If you’ve ever wondered whether you could do this too, if you’re thinking this could be your calling,  or if you’re simply curious about what sober coaching looks like – this webinar is the perfect place to start.
